John Brennan Channels Scott McClellan Dodging Leak Questions

When Margaret Warner asked John Brennan about the leak witch hunt today, he said, in part,

First of all, there are investigations underway, so we have to be mindful of that and respectful of that investigative process.

Secondly, the President has made it very clear that any leak of classified national security information is something that should be rigorously pursued.

Let’s see. Dodging the question by invoking an ongoing investigation.

Check.

Reassurance that–quote–“the President has made it very clear” that he takes this stuff seriously.

Check.

Brennan must not have seen this movie when it was first released. Because this strategy ultimately didn’t work out that well.

Heh! Creativity is not something familiar to our government elite. It’s almost as if they’ve never heard of the refrain of “doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of crazy”.

Though to be fair to Brennan EW, he’s playing the odds with his obfuscation. After all, the percentage of folks who’ve used this approach and got away with it far outweighs the number who’ve been nailed.

Perhaps a minor update on this post via Karen DeYoung of the WaPo:

“…Brennan also said that recent leaks of national security information had been “devastating.” He would not discuss specific examples.

“I don’t want to validate any of the things that are out there,” he said. “But it’s unconscionable what has gone out.”

Says Blabbermouth Brennan with apparently a straight face.

Who knew he could do comedy too?

“…First of all, there are investigations [cover-up] underway, so we have to be mindful of that and respectful of that investigative [cover-up] process.”

If I knew how to mark strike-out, I would strike out the “investigations” for yah, to finish fixing the quote.
