Finding The Way To San Jose

NatSecBarWell, hello there Clarisse. As I look at the crack of light filtering in through the drawn Elvis curtains of my hotel room, it appears to be morning. We had fun last night. The first picture is of, from left to right, Col. Morris Davis, Marcy and Jen Nessel of the Center for Constitutional Rights. Also present, but sadly out of the frame, were Jim White and our longtime friend and fearless roving reporter Rosalind.

What, no umbrella in that drink? It looks like it needed one. Enjoy SJ. By the way, any word on Bloch coming up next week again?

Oh, yeah — don’t forget to watch UCLA play for the Men’s Baseball College World Series title in Omaha against some other team from a conference called SEC. UCLA has been putting on a clinic about “how to win a baseball game by playing better than the other team”. They knocked out #1 seed North Carolina yesterday 4-1 to earn the finals. Pitching staff at 0.90 ERA for the CWS. Defense and pitching combining to allow 3 total runs in three games, a record low. Scoring a total of 8 runs to win those three games (also a record low) and doing so by getting hits when hits were needed (two extra base hits in three victories, but victories they have been), capitalizing on every defensive imperfection and making every play when it counts. Just plain winning the game. They’ve got everybody scratching their heads as they walk off the field to head home. Brilliant coaching, stalwart execution. And it’s no fluke — this team is apparently 38-2 when leading in the seventh inning this season.

Given this week’s events, I can see just about any Patsies fan needing multiple iterations of something looking like what you got, EW.

Top Official Admits F-35 Stealth Fighter Secrets Stolen

Yesterday, at a subcommittee hearing attended by just half a dozen Senators, the Pentagon’s top weapons buyer made a blunt admission: The military’s most expensive program, the stealthy F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, has been hacked and the stolen data used by America’s adversaries. Under Secretary Frank Kendall didn’t say by whom, but the answer is almost certainly China, a cyber superpower whose People’s Liberation Army Air Force has recently rolled out some suspiciously sophisticated stealth fighter prototypes of its own. The Russians also have skilled hackers and “5th Generation” stealth jet programs, but they’re not suspected of such direct copying, at least not yet.

Bmaz, don’t blame Jeebus for your own poor choices. What were you thinking?

Jim, maybe you ought to order for poor Bmaz next time.

    @scribe:
Just like nothing’s going to happen to Mike McConnell for setting up a ‘data center’ for the UAE that’s doing exactly what NSA et al. do in the US, and teaching them all about how to do it.

  8. Peterr says:

@P J Evans: McConnell likely was encouraged to take this job, and when he and his consultants put all the right little back-doors into the UAEs systems, they’ll get a tidy little bonus from the NSA, on top of their UAE paychecks.

@Bay State Librul: And it ends with the Bruins on the short end of a 3-1 score.

Game 6 in Boston, and the best the Bruins can hope for is to be able to come back to the United Center for a game 7.

  10. scribe says:

@Bay State Librul: Bruins were doing more than a little headhunting on Toews. Three vicious headshots that I counted and he wound up on the bench the entire 3rd period. I can’t see that going unanswered. 63 in black – the “Little Ball of Hate” – had better watch out.

But more to the point Chiara is possibly -7 or -8 (I dunno how many of those goals were PP, so the actual number is probably lower) over the last couple games, the Blackhawks were talking some serious trash at him before and likely during the game and he is way out of his head – playing stupid. That is a prescription for a celebration in Boston tomorrow night.

Let’s be fair, too. It was 2-1 with a 3/4 rink empty-netter with well under a minute left. Tightly played game.

Latest…. on hit and run play

Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk will not face a disciplinary hearing for his hit on Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Boychuk hit Toews in front of the Boston net in the second period, causing the Blackhawks captain to hit the ice hard. Toews left the game with an undisclosed injury.

Boychuk was not penalized on the play.

Toews did not speak to the media after the game but was seen signing autographs for fans on his way out of the United Center.

Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville called Toews day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
