The sheer notoriety of that 1984 incident involving Dinesh D’Souza and the Concerned Alumni of Princeton, the fact of a prominent New York Times article (as well as articles in the Princeton Alumni Weekly), ought to raise questions about Alito’s sworn statement that he has â€racked†his brain to remember CAP and his own involvement with the organization.

Either he was lying on his 1985 job application about being a member of CAP, or he is lying today when he pretends to forget CAP. He simply can’t have it both ways.

Though I’m disappointed, I’m not entirely surprised that the William Rusher materials at the Library of Congress came up short. (Apparently his papers weren’t the sort that would have membership names in them.) I’ve a hunch that documentary evidence will eventually surface showing Alito’s relationship to CAP, and that he lied to get on the Court. I just hope it comes out before the vote.

Thanks for plugging my diary. I don’t often write them, and this was my first appearance on the Kos â€Rec†list.

Think Progress has the â€full list†of everyone who helped Alito prepare. Lindsey Graham isn’t on the list, so clearly not all names are being supplied (unless arbitrary, convenient distinctions are being made between â€moot courts,†â€murder boards,†etc.)

As a Princeton grad (’74), I can tell you that there was NO ONE on campus in the early 70s who didn’t know what CAP stood for: a return to the all-male, virtually all-white, ostensibly all-heterosexual Princeton.

CAP was a huge, very visible issue on campus in the early 70s. Nobody..NOBODY..didn’t know what they were up to. Much less someone who claimed to be a member.

Alito is lying. He is lying about his involvement with CAP, he is lying about his knowledge of what CAP stood for, and he is lying about his memory about the controversy surrounding it.

That’s really all that matters. He’s a liar.

    Alito’s â€â€¦intrusive paternalism.â€

Gives me the creeps. Makes me want to commit patricide. Or at least beat the shit out of him.

Even more creepy is the theater of the absurd those hearings actually are. It’s a done deal. The Democrats will fold, and Alito will be confirmed. Meanwhile, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And blah.

    Bored?

OMIGOD! Look! Mrs. Alito is sobbing! She’s leaving the room, distraught. Those evil sonsabitchin’ Democrats!

Kafka couldn’t have done any better than this.
