If You’ll Be My Dixville Chicken, I’ll Be Your Tennessee Lamb!

Obama Wins Dixville Notch!!!

Barack Obama – 15
John McCain – 6

Big upset, GOP always wins Dixville (except for Bartlett being Bartlett)

UPDATE FROM HOWIE: Dixville Notch, New Hampshire has 75 residents and 21 registered voters. They just voted at midnight– and the winner is… Barack Obama, a huge break with tradition for an overwhelmingly Republican bastion. The last Democrat to win there was Hubert Humphrey in 1968. Obama took 15 votes, McCain 6 and Nader 0. Jeanne Shaheen also won. And the other hamlet that votes at midnight, Hart’s Location, population 42, also gave Obama a win– 17-10.

Dude, that is why I posted this version. i have never bought any recordings, vinyl or digital, since Lowell’s departure; but have seen them live a couple of times. Not the same for sure, but a pretty decent good time. It was the singer from Pure Prairie League. I really missed Lowell’s guitar….

        Speaking of Dixie…

Just stumbled on this clip last week and have become obsessed with it, especially the singer Jerry Fisher, who I had never heard of before this:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo6wMXH35f8

“So Long Dixie” Sort of appropriate as well on the eve of entering a new era in America, one not dominated by the Old South anymore.

For some reason, it seems important to note that Lowell George was a member of the Mothers of Invention.

          As was Jimmie Carl Black!

Hi boys and girls, I’m Jimmy Carl Black, I’m the Indian of the group, and I just want to know WHEN DO I GET PAID ???

          • Badwater says:

            RIP Jimmy

Jimmy passed away peacefully last night Saturday 11/01/08 at 11:00 o’clock pm. Jimmy says hi to everybody and he doesn’t want anybody to be sad.

    We’re winnin’!

    Obama 32 64%
    McCain 16 32%
    Paul 2 4%

Combination of Dixville Notch and Harts Location, NH.

    “From a small
    stone tossed into calm
    seas erupts tsunami”

    ~Dixville Notch

  2. cinnamonape says:

BTW It’s rural NH towns and hamlets like Dixville Notch and Harts Location that portend the direction (usually moderately conservative) of non-urban NH. So these are great results. These Hamlets are just the type of places that brought McCain his primary wins and why he thought he has a chance here.

I dunno about the Allmans. It’s still in the family with Derek Trucks. Have you seen the Brothers with him?

        • Raven says:

Nope, and I’m just up the road. I saw duane three times and I just can’t bring myself to do it. That being said I have seen Derek and he’s awesome. Just watched “Rush” for the first time and Greg was cool.

          • spacefish says:

I’m a little young to have seen Duane, so I don’t have anything to compare to. But it really hurt when Dickey left. Not the same at all.

            • Raven says:

Yea, it’s not even really a comparison for me. I know there are people who can play what he played after the fact but it was a time and place that I prefer to keep. My brother manages a Pink Floyd cover band in LA. They are excellent musicians and, some say, actually can sound better live than Floyd did. Since I wasn’t into them I enjoy going to their shows.

              • bmaz says:

Hey Raven, I am way into floyd, seen them three times. Incredible. My wife went to see something called The Australian Pink Floyd a while back. They are semi-sanctioned in that they have a lot of the old stage props and whatnot from the real band and talk to them a lot. She really liked them.

Never say Duane with the Brothers, but did see him with Derek and the Dominoes. Wow is all I can say. Of course, the Dominoes had this other guitar player too….

Go to your local Obama HQ: you can still make GOTV calls that might make a difference. We have great lists and you can help.

  4. klynn says:

In my area of Franklin County, Ohio, it is primarily Repug Country. My daughter said a group of kids got two whole grades together on the playground yesterday and did a student polling for President. One child raised their hand for McCain. Out of almost 300 kids. The rest…Obama.

    • NMMagyar says:

I almost pissed myself when I saw that the Middletown Journal (Butler cty) endorsed Obama – I always thought that was about the reddest of the red

      • klynn says:

That was an eye opener for me. But I loved the recap statement of their endorsement for Obama on 11/2:

        • President — Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has demonstrated the maturity, needed pragmatism, genuine concern and calm understanding of the historic challenges that our nation faces in these uncertain times. His opponent, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has not sufficiently explained why his presidency would not be an extension of the dismal Bush presidency. Our endorsement goes to Sen. Obama.

        (My bold)

  5. perris says:

do the dems win back the south?

if so, we can anticipate the base calling bush the worst president in our entire history, the bigots of this country will blame bush for making it possible to get obama elected

bush might earn more vile hatred from his base then the progressives have for him

    the world is round

‘Cause I just don’t wanna talk to him now

And that’s the meanest blues of all

  7. Broadstreetbuddy says:

I guess Obama does have some things in common with small town people. That is a small town if i ever heard.

By the by, I am here in Washington DC does any body know of a good watering hole to watch the election returns tonight?

  8. T-Bear says:

An advert in El Pais showing the American flag with the blue field holding 718 stars. Translated it says:

American elections: a change that affects more than 50 states.

The advert got that correct, now it is up to you Americans.

  9. jayt says:

I have yet to see a single person walk into the polling place next door (downtown Indianapolis) to me this morning.

Which is fine with me. I honestly think that all of the D voters have already voted, taking advantage of the early voting period which ran from October 6 up to noon yesterday.

    • Raven says:

Same here, we walked past the school with the pups and there was no one except the PTA sellin muffins outside!

  10. i4u2bi says:

In case anyone missed the latest HATE! commercials put out by ‘McCain & Thugs’ you can find it on Mi TeeVee.

  11. Anais says:

Thanks to Dixville Notch! From your ballots to God’s ears (or should that be eyes?).
“The whole world is watching to see if America is who she says she is.”

  12. Marion in Savannah says:

Arrived at the polling place at 6:45, polls opened at 7:00, the line was long enough that I voted at 8:30, and the line was longer when I left than when I arrived. I’ve never seen anything like it.

    • JPL9 says:

Can we assume that you voted for THAT ONE!!!!!!!!! I watched Barack vote on cnn.com and the crowd cheers were amazing. He stopped and shook hands with every one. I suppose the Repubs will now sue for campaigning in a polling site.. gee

  13. bmaz says:

Hey guys – Just got back from voting. My wife and I have already cancelled out John and Cindy McCain’s votes!!! Take that Grumpy John.

Got to the poll at 10 minutes to 6 am, there was already 50 people in line! I live in a pretty sleepy quiet precinct; that kind of line before the doors even open is wildly cool. It bodes very well I think This is a historic day.

  14. perris says:

I DID piss myself when cheney’s home town paper endorsed obama

the day after cheney endorsed mccain!

    that was GREAT

    • bmaz says:

Are they still touring with the singer from Pure Prairie League? As I said above, I have seen Feat a couple of times since Lowell died. Still a very fun live act. Not buying and albums, but would go see them live anytime.

  15. kspena says:

I had a long direct email from mccain this am appealing for my vote. I wrote back:

“John, Your problem is that you ran your campaign by appealing to the politics of division. People who are intelligent, hardworking, tolerant and patriotic are put off by you appeals to anti-intellectual, white, intolerant ‘patriots’. Shame on you and shame on your advisors. Trashing others by scorning ‘mother’s health’, or Chicago intellectuals, or putting up ‘Joe the Plumber’ as uber American, who seems more skinhead than not, is foolish in today’s world. Calling for a ‘win’ in Iraq, when any reasonable person knows what’s happening there, is foolish. Most thinking people today read scores of newspapers on line, including Middle Eastern websites. Maybe you should try that, too. Thank you for your service, but the world has passed you by.”

I wonder if anyone will read it…
