I’m still holding out hope for that 1 EV in NE CD2. I wish I knew which precincts in Omaha (Douglas County) are in. With 35% of the vote, Obama’s up by 3400 votes. He’s down by 7000 in Sarpy County, but it’s 65% in. Those two counties are the whole district.

I not only got in, I been trying to prepare a three word response to ANYTHING a repuglitard says, short of offering a suicide note

I just been tryin a new one out

I’m not really sold on it yet, but I had my eye on this spiffy lil number:

            GO FUCK YOURSELF

            whadda ya think ???

            too cheney ???

On the whole, a nice concession speech. A few hypocritical remarks, like he forgot how negative his campaigning got, but said some valuable remarks calling for unity and burying the hatchet, as an example for his supporters. (Almost seemed like he was hinting for a job.)

    • Ishmael says:

Almost as big as the one between McCain and Palin – and that had to be the worst PDA between Cindy & John ever. She can’t wait to get to Coronado.

    • R.H. Green says:

Yes, I noticed it too. Looked awfully stiff and distant. Also the gesture toward Palin looked to be awkwardly rebuffed, or better, reservedly accepted.

    • MadDog says:

Gonna be a whole lot of finger-pointing, excuse-making and general whinging in the days to come.

Wanna bet whether Sarah makes a whole lot of interviews now?

    • bmaz says:

Crappy investments, tanking off the deep end, will do that to ya. Cindy doesn’t like underperforming assets; considering a short sale currently. Derivative children an impediment; soon as the last one is safely in college will be time to announce the liquidation of the junk collateral.

I seem to feel like sharing. As I listened to Mc Cain, I found myself wondering how “my friends” at Emptywheel were taking this. I seem to have joined a club. Howdy.

    Thanks EW and bmaz!

Now that Virginia has joined the ranks of the Rational and Sensible States, I think we’ll find a Very High correlation between the 2008 Red States and the Dumbest, Most Socially Backward and Least Religiously Tolerant States in the Union.

The flip-side to Obama Winning is the Shrinking of Paleo-America. Let’s hear it for Progress!

    Our America is Back!

  6. Ishmael says:

according to Gergen on CNN, President-Elect Obama is going to hit the ground running – transition starts tomorrow, chief of staff to be named!

  7. whitewidow says:

Palin looked like the runner-up at the pageant. Awwww.

Yes, I’ll take the schadenfreude with a side of schadenfreude, please.

Gawd this feels good. Am I wrong to want to gloat?

  8. WilliamOckham says:

Obama pulls ahead in North Carolina with 96% in. He’s up by just under 30,000 votes, out of over 4 million.

I am just thrilled to say we won our county, Athens County, and a bunch of Ohio counties to the south, many of which are considered Appalachian.

-Magnanimous and gracious in victory to his opponent.
    -How does Biden roll? Amtrack.
-(I don’t think Jesse Jackson – in the crowd – wants to cut Barack’s Balls off anymore.)
-We will get to know Maya and Alma (sp?) his sisters.
-His campaign was financed from the bottom up at $5 and $10 a shot. This is their victory, and I think this is more than rhetoric. I think it is true.
-the problems we face are great…. enumerated
-this victory alone is not the change we seek, it is the chance that can happen.
-it requires a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice
-the true strength of out nation comes from not from our wealth or our military strength but from the strength of our ideals.

  11. stryder says:

    Chimes Of Freedom
Far between sundown’s finish an’ midnight’s broken toll
We ducked inside the doorway, thunder crashing
As majestic bells of bolts struck shadows in the sounds
Seeming to be the chimes of freedom flashing
Flashing for the warriors whose strength is not to fight
Flashing for the refugees on the unarmed road of flight
An’ for each an’ ev’ry underdog soldier in the night
An’ we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

In the city’s melted furnace, unexpectedly we watched
With faces hidden while the walls were tightening
As the echo of the wedding bells before the blowin’ rain
Dissolved into the bells of the lightning
Tolling for the rebel, tolling for the rake
Tolling for the luckless, the abandoned an’ forsaked
Tolling for the outcast, burnin’ constantly at stake
An’ we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Through the mad mystic hammering of the wild ripping hail
The sky cracked its poems in naked wonder
That the clinging of the church bells blew far into the breeze
Leaving only bells of lightning and its thunder
Striking for the gentle, striking for the kind
Striking for the guardians and protectors of the mind
An’ the unpawned painter behind beyond his rightful time
An’ we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Through the wild cathedral evening the rain unraveled tales
For the disrobed faceless forms of no position
Tolling for the tongues with no place to bring their thoughts
    All down in taken-for-granted situations
Tolling for the deaf an’ blind, tolling for the mute
Tolling for the mistreated, mateless mother, the mistitled prostitute
For the misdemeanor outlaw, chased an’ cheated by pursuit
An’ we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Even though a cloud’s white curtain in a far-off corner flashed
An’ the hypnotic splattered mist was slowly lifting
Electric light still struck like arrows, fired but for the ones
Condemned to drift or else be kept from drifting
Tolling for the searching ones, on their speechless, seeking trail
For the lonesome-hearted lovers with too personal a tale
An’ for each unharmful, gentle soul misplaced inside a jail
An’ we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

Starry-eyed an’ laughing as I recall when we were caught
Trapped by no track of hours for they hanged suspended
As we listened one last time an’ we watched with one last look
Spellbound an’ swallowed ’til the tolling ended
Tolling for the aching ones whose wounds cannot be nursed
For the countless confused, accused, misused, strung-out ones an’ worse
An’ for every hung-up person in the whole wide universe
An’ we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

CNN is pressing Begala to comment on the rumor of Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff. Won’t do it. Begala instead tales about OBama’s speech. Now the whole panel is back commenting on the speech. Hurray for Begala.

    Rosen won’t let it go.
