Travel Day

I’m about to take off for this conference. The conference organizers have assured me there will be wifi, so I’ll likely liveblog the more interesting panels (gosh, it seems so long since I’ve liveblogged Judge Walton; I wonder if I’ll remember how). But otherwise posting may be spotty until Monday. Then again, maybe not.

I see Mark Garagos is on the ’Role of the Defense Counsel’ panel at 2:45. I wonder what he thinks of ’Graymail and Privilege’ Defense strategies?

I also wonder if Reggie would comment on central issues in the UE arguments he’s seen put forth in conjunction with his ’Role of the Courts’ panel?

    Have a safe trip!

  2. Mary says:

Sounds like a great conference – have fun and hold up the side. In the â€new media†panel it looks like you carry the sole, â€active blogger†burden.

Also, Geragos is going to be on the panel? Maybe he’ll give you a few words on his subpoenas? *g*

  3. chun yang says:

It is hot and rainless here in North Carolina, but welcome and hope the conference is fun.I know a lot of us in Chapel Hill would be happy to treat you to â€Beer thirty†anytime!

Geez, I forgot about my curse. I’m about to do a chunk of traveling, three more trips in the next few weeks. So maybe the whole administration will resign.

Just keep Joe Lieberman from offering any more amendments.

(and if anyone cares, I’ve got plane troubles in DTW)

  5. DeeLoralei in Memphis says:

Skdad, I hope it’s just Emptywheel on her onlyness being off that causes the resignations or firings. But I seem to remember it may also included Lambert@ First Draft and maybe also Stewart and Colbert. Because they were all on R&R at the time of Gonzo’s and then again Rove’s resignations. So we shall see around Friday @5 pm EDT, or maybe Monday @8 AM EDT.. But here’s hoping for some non-war fireworks from DC this weekend. (g)

Walton, Geragos, Chereminsky, and the travel curse. Good times.

But the thing I’m curious about is â€the ’Fred Friendly’ roundtable.†What is â€Fred Friendly†in quotes code for–executive privilege? The â€art†of executive privilege as practiced by its maestro? How is a â€Fred Friendly†roundtable different from a â€David Addington†roundtable?

With ew there they’ll probably hear for the first time that they might want to be having a â€Gillespie!†roundtable too.

Have fun ew. Go out and kill the bad guys–no prisoners.

  7. JohnLopresti says:

EW’s Libby trial blog was extraordinary both for Jane’s design and support, but also for the parentheticals which revealed history, context, and ambience, all topics off-limits in legal reporter transcription. I think it has been the journalist as historian aspect of EW’s work which has been overlooked and rendered generic in some of the social pundrity about liveblogging. One essential is typing fast. But taking time to make a wry observation based on years’ research is the extra measure evident in such good liveblogs. Though yesterday’s Mayfield decision in a district tribunal is one likely to test the mettle of the US Supreme court if the government appeals, there is much work on privacy issues EW has pursued, as have some actual court complainants such as Mayfield. Another interesting development for media and communications protagonists is the reflexive morphing of journalism into propaganda outlet. Some of the speakers and panelists at the event seem to have a background of thoughtful regard of those topics.

  8. Anonymous says:

Zhiv – You are thinking of Fred Fielding, current White House Counsel. Fred Friendly was the former longtime president of CBS News and partner of Ed Murrow. Man, two totally different quality of guys.

  9. zhiv says:

oops. My bad–I’m a moron. Fred Friendly–played by George Clooney in the movie, right? Thanks. Would still like it to be a Fred Fielding roundtable, with ew in the audience.

  10. radiofreewill says:

h.p.s. – Thanks for the compliment (I’m not worthy!) and I liked KC’s blog, too!

Now, if only we could find a live-blogger at Cheney’s speech to the Closed-Door Meeting of the Strict Daddies Association in Colorado tomorrow? Might be someone’s chance to relay the spectacle of a Mass Induction…
