Emptywheel’s Trash Talk – Debate With The Dishonorable Geezer Edition

There are a bunch of games. Half the mopes will lose. Teams from Phoenix will be among them; but with the USC burp Thursday night, it is a little easier to take. This done on the fly, so additional fun discussion will have to follow later. I am thinking you guys know how to rip the joint up without a bunch of mumbo jumbo anyway.

Trash and smash at will!

Anyone else notice how Jim Lehrer allowed McCain to get away with repeating the inaccurate statement endlessly repeated by the Iraq warmongers the last four years about what the Iranian President Ahmadinejad allegedly said about Israel. McCain repeated Iran wants to “wipe Israel off the map”.

Prof Juan Cole and others called this out immediately when this false statement started to be repeated.

“vanish from the pages of time” is a far cry from “wiping Israel off the map”

Why do those in control of the airwaves allow this to be endlessly repeated?

  1. earlofhuntingdon says:

Obama! Stop lecturing and start fighting. Stop congratulating St. John. Attack his record, attack the record of his party, which marches in lock step in support of this president and his priorities. Stop letting McCain pretend that the problems he claims to want to fix are not those he, his president and his party created.

    Obama. Simplify your message.

Lehrer. WTF!!! During the debate is no time to be telling candidates the rules. If they are meant to address each other directly, and not you, you’re an ass for taking up air time to do it.

Obama came ready to debate. McCain came ready to be a calm elder statesman. Start grappling gentlemen. Get under McCain’s skin; historically, that’s easier to do than blowing your nose.

  2. earlofhuntingdon says:

    Obama. Spit.It.Out!!!

If McCain gets away with calling Obama a flip flopper — after this week — Obama deserves to lose. If McCain, who has missed nearly every vote in the Senate for a year, gets to claim greater responsible stewardship than Obama, he deserves to lose.

Obama. Simplify. Simplify. Simplify. It goes against your grain, you’ve made a success of always thinking first and speaking carefully, but it doesn’t work in a debate forum. You’re doing stand up. If you have to remember the next joke, the audience is reaching for the hook. Get quicker responses honed and delivered faster. Only then follow up with more thoughtful comments. Otherwise, your audience is out the door, looking for McSame’s barbecue.

  3. earlofhuntingdon says:

Obama, ask why, if McSame knows how to get military cost overruns under control, WTF has he been doing during the Bush administration, which has seen more cost overruns, on more programs, involving more lack of oversight and privatizing, than ever.

Stop saying, “John’s right.” It’s all listeners will remember. Ban it from your debate vocabulary. Frame your own points, don’t keep responding to McSame’s. Sheesh. This is Debate 101, perhaps the only course Obama seems determined not to get an “A” in.

  4. bmaz says:

Obama should ask McGeezer why the country would want to elect a sarcophagus and an ignoramus? Then he should ask McCain how many times, and with how many women, he cheated on his wife Cindy in order to drive her to narcotic addiction?

  5. FloraLegium says:

Bmaz, you rock. I can’t watch the debate; really can’t stomach it. So your video was a lifesaver. Thanks, as always –

  6. Mary says:

As appalling as McCain is, it’s very hard to work up anything even approaching enthusiasm for Barak “John’s Right” Obama. *sigh*

That’s for sure. But on Face the Nation I swear I heard Obama say that “Iran is developing a nuclear weapons program” I am waiting for the transcript to come up at Face the Nation, But I swear that he said this. If it turns out to be accurate..what the fuck is Obama doing making inaccurate and dangerous statements like this?

Here is the latest from El Baradei on Iran.
Introductory Statement to the Board of Governors
by IAEA Director General Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei
      http://www.iaea.org/NewsCenter…..8n007.html

Implementation of Safeguards in the Islamic Republic of Iran
The Agency has been able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran. Regrettably, the Agency has not been able to make substantive progress on the alleged studies and associated questions relevant to possible military dimensions to Iran´s nuclear programme. These remain of serious concern.

Although Iran has acknowledged that some information in the relevant documentation, including names of individuals and organizations, is correct, it reiterated that all the documents are fabricated or forged. Iran has also declared that it has not performed any of the activities described in the alleged studies and reiterated its request to be provided with originals, or even copies, of the documentation. I call upon Member States which provided the Agency with documentation related to the alleged studies to authorize the Agency to share it with Iran.

However, as mentioned in the report which you have before you, Iran should clarify the extent to which information in the documentation is factually correct and where, as it asserts, such information may have been fabricated or relates to non nuclear purposes. In that context, Iran needs to give the Agency substantive information to support its statements and provide access to relevant documentation and individuals. Unless Iran provides such transparency, and implements the Additional Protocol, the Agency will not be able to provide credible assurances about the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran.

I note that the Agency has not detected the actual use of nuclear material in connection with the alleged studies, nor does it have information – apart from the uranium metal document – on the actual design or manufacture by Iran of nuclear material components of a nuclear weapon. Contrary to the decisions of the Security Council, Iran has not suspended its enrichment related activities. Although Iran has so far produced only limited quantities of low enriched uranium (LEU), this is still a cause for concern for the international community in the absence of full clarity about Iran´s past and present nuclear programme.

I reiterate that the Agency does not in any way seek to “pry” into Iran´s conventional or missile-related military activities. Our focus is clearly on nuclear material and activities. We need, however, to make use of all relevant information to be able to confirm that no nuclear material is being used for nuclear weapons purposes. I am confident that arrangements can be developed which enable the Agency to do its work while ensuring that Iran´s legitimate right to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information and activities is respected. I again urge Iran to show full transparency and to implement all measures required to build confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear programme at the earliest possible date.

It is now six years since we began intensive work to clarify Iran´s nuclear activities. It is in everyone´s interest that we should reach full clarity as soon as possible.”

Why no mention of the latest NIE report on Iran during the debates? Of course Lehrer did not even come close to bringing up the Israeli Palestinian conflict. This topic is still shut down, off limits…sssh

  8. randiego says:

hi guys, agree that Obama needs to sharpen his message. I’m surprised he doesn’t seem to have the 10-words-or-less soundbites to deliver, on every single topic.

He’s had a few, but he’s missed some serious openings.

He’ll need some practice before then next one comes along. I expected him to be a little more prepared for this.

  9. Professor Foland says:

When McSame’s spent half an hour hammering your judgment, and ends with that before your closing statement, how is your closing statement anything other than simply, “Speaking of judgment, accountability, and the record, on the single most important foreign policy judgment of the last 8 years, to go into Iraq, my opponent got it wrong, and I got it right. Thank you, my fellow Americans, for listening tonight.”

Oh, they’re both going down eventually. The Gators will take care of Georgia. Due to some extraordinary luck, I will be in Oklahoma for another reason and will be able to go to their game with Kansas. I was a KU undergrad, so I’m going to go have a good time at the game and hope for a miracle.

It’s hard to believe USC already folded. They’re way ahead of schedule this year.

  11. Evolute says:

The McGeezer stealing the “You don’t get it” figures. His next stunt will be to steal Obama’s black skin. Maybe that $5000 make-up gal can do some movie magic on him.

Now that perennial pretenders OSU and USC have been exposed as Great Pre-Season Chest Beaters, once again, the rest of US can begin to get down to some Power Football!

Wisc – Michigan: Expect the Wolverines to put on the Lead Boots and stay a half-step behind the Badgers the whole game. Badgers maul the Skunk-Heads in the Big House.

Alabama – Georgia: Alabama is Hard To Beat, and the whispered secret in the SEC is that Georgia isn’t as good as they are made out to be. Alabama in an Upset Between the Hedges.
