So much happened between when Nicole and I taped this and when she posted it:

  • In the Menendez trial, Judge Sidney Stein ruled that the jury can’t see key evidence because of Speech and Debate protections. (Here’s the earlier Politico article explaining the problem, which I referenced in the podcast.)
  • In the Hunter Biden pretrial hearing, Judge Noreika generally ruled favorably for Hunter, including that he will be able to challenge individual communications from the laptop on a case-by-case basis. In CNN’s report on the issue, AUSA Derek Hines’ assurances about Hallie Biden’s ability to validate the most important texts from the case was a bit less boisterous than in court filings; he said she could corroborate that she sent her side of the texts, not that she received Hunter’s responses: “What we’re using from the laptop are messages that will be corroborated by a witness who will testify that she sent those messages.” Btw, don’t read NBC’s coverage of the hearing — they had at least five journalists there and still missed basic details. Noreika did not yet rule on the three-colored gun form.
  • I meant to mention on the show that Trump has collected on the first $40M of his quid pro quo with energy executives.

    About the Russian drug dealer suspected of stealing Hunter’s device, the Daily Mail identifies a possible suspect in a laptop photo.

    The photo they suggest is likely dated after Las Vegas, located in LA before returning to Delaware in October. In the photo is a woman and 3 men. If you scroll through the laptop photos and see that particular photo, the one guy has a suspicious look on his face, like he would definitely stab Hunter in the back.

        Wikipedia, in a policy about reliable sources “Consensus has determined that the Daily Mail (including its online version, dailymail.co.uk) is generally unreliable, and its use as a reference is to be generally prohibited, especially when other more reliable sources exist…the Daily Mail’s reputation for poor fact checking, sensationalism, and flat-out fabrication.” I believe it was the first source to be voted as “deprecated”.

        That may be, but to understand what is going on with the laptop, it’s necessary to look at the different narratives surrounding the events. Dumpster diving is in order to follow along.

          If by “different narratives” you mean DARVO, I don’t find it necessary to “look at” it anymore.

          In terms of understanding “what is going on with the laptop”, I read Dr Wheeler’s meticulously researched and sourced analysis.

          Thank you for the feedback. My goal is to answer the question of whether Hunter brought a laptop to Mac Isaac, or someone else did pretending to be him, and feedback to analyze information is helpful.

          In the video posted above, if you watched it, you would have seen Emptywheel discuss the contents from the same Daily Mail article. After watching the video, I added to that discussion, from the same Daily Mail article Emptywheel was discussing.

          To help me understand your feedback, can you please clarify why it is appropriate for Emptywheel to discuss the same article but it’s an issue that I am discussing it?

    Dr. Wheeler, I wanted to thank you for standing up for Hunter Biden and speaking out against the awful right-wing bullies who will stop at nothing to destroy him. Even though it saddens me that there are not more like you, you are doing incredible work as the only one on the Democratic side advocating for him and against the unfair treatment he has received.

    I am very emotionally invested in Hunter and really want him to be okay. As someone who has been bullied, seeing people attack and bully someone so shy and vulnerable, all while battling serious demons, really shook me up and upset me. However, this is what also inspired me to volunteer for Strides in Recovery – a nonprofit in LA County that facilitates running and walking sessions for people in treatment centers and sober living houses to support long-term sobriety.

    You mentioned on this episode that you will be attending the tax trial in Los Angeles in September. If this is something you feel comfortable with, would you consider doing a meet-up for local fans of your work?

    Yesterday evening CNN posted that a Turkish graphic designer made the template of the “Reich” video Trump posted.

    What’s interesting is that video design is being credited to Harpe herself, and oops! She just accidentally forgot to change that particular text even though she managed to figure out how to edit and insert text about Trump in other places on the video.

    I don’t think this absolves Harpe at all.
